Bradford HM Coroners Office

Flexiform has completed an office furniture installation for the recently refurbished and local HM Coroners Office in Bradford. For the refurbishment and fit-out, HM Coroners Office used firms local to Bradford with Leeds based architect Farrell & Clark, and Keighley (West Yorkshire) based contractor R N Wooler & Co Ltd, and of course, Flexiform’s Bradford-based furniture manufacturing.

This installation was during Covid-19, and Flexiform took additional care to respect social distancing and any regulations in place at the time.

Heritage Interior Design

Relocating from Bradford Magistrates’ Court to their own dedicated facility – the Cater Buildings located in Little Germany, the building required a major refurbishment with the contractor and architect respecting the heritage and showcasing original manufacturing features. This was reflected not only in the architecture but also in the materials, fabric and finishes selected for the office furniture, with industrial black, wood and chunky textiles used.

The new HM Coroners Office has been designed to encompass Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees regions, with a particular focus on improving not only the speed of the service with 3 courtrooms available to run simultaneously but to provide a modern, sensitive and respectful area for the bereaved. To reflect this, Flexiform installed a range of desking, ergonomic chairs, flip-up jury seating, fixed yet easily removable press and public seating, a dedicated area for the family, plus additional seating areas and all back-office accommodation. Drawing from previous installations for Council Chambers we were able to install smart and functional spaces of varying sizes.

Office Design

Within the staff offices, the buildings natural beams and supports were exposed to reflect the heritage, creating a unique workspace. To complement and fit around the structures, we installed our Flexiform single desk and side-to-side desks in a black frame, oak worktop and Dolly textured blue frameless desk screens. These desks were ideal for the space, as the varying configurations use the same components, which allows the client to reconfigure, extend and adapt the desk in the future. The work desks were completed with dual monitor arms and under desk personal storage, with Freestor Tambour storage cabinets nearby for general filing. All the office storage we supplied was lockable to help secure sensitive or personal information where necessary.

Waiting Room Furniture

Numerous breakout and waiting room furniture was installed to provide a comfortable and dedicated space for families, with low back modular sofas, coffee and dining tables, and modern meeting room chairs, with colourful fabrics to create a positive space. We also created a bespoke Pico single desk with an extended worktop to provide a formal area where families can meet directly with the coroner.

Flexiform is proud to have worked alongside Yorkshire based firms to provide a modern courtroom and office space. The client was eager to start using their new office space, providing inquests the week after the job was signed over.
