Flexiform has collaborated with MLA Architects (Michael Laurie Architects) to create this stunning office furniture installation for Scottish Law Commission. Set in a historic statement building in the centre of Edinburgh, MLA Architect’s office designer embraced a natural materials colour palette, creating a modern industrial office interior.

To reflect the exposed brick and create a seamless office, MLA visited our Scottish showroom for two 5-hour finish and sample sessions, with the results speaking for themselves! We manufactured our Ferro clear coat lacquer finishes which showcase the natural beauty of the steel alongside a selection of bespoke furniture using a copper effect cladding and tops.

Office Furniture

For Scottish Law Commission’s main desking space, we installed a mixture of Pico 120-degree desks, matching back-to-back desk configurations and Jot-Up Lite back-to-back electric sit/stand desks. This collection of workspaces gave the staff ample space with the 120-degree desks being particularly useful for collaborating due to users center facing aspect. The desks were further extended on each side with useful low tambour storage, allowing easy access to secured files whilst also providing more space for printers and filing.

For meeting, collaboration and breakout spaces, Flexiform installed a range of Ferro high bench tables and stools, 1-2-1 meeting booths and Valido lounge chairs with coffee tables. Private meeting spaces were created utilising our Tonez chair and Additions pedestal base tables, whilst a phone booth with shelving, power, lighting, perch seating and ventilation provided a comfortable space for private phone calls. Within the breakout area, staff we’re able to relax on an L-shape sofa or bench seats with access to their personal storage lockers from our Luxo range.

Office Installation & Logistics

With Scottish Law Commission’s offices based within Edinburgh City Centre, access and logistics were challenging. Utilising a small local courtyard, we managed to carefully off-load the office furniture whilst having minimal disruption to the surrounding businesses. The offices were located deep inside the larger building with lots of stairs and obstacles to navigate. As all of our installations are given a dedicated project manager on site, this was all manageable and controlled, studying limitations beforehand and ensuring furniture was delivered in the correct order on a suitably sized wagon. This was equally important within the office space, as the racking was installed on a mezzanine, care and attention were given by our installation teams to utilise the limited space thoughtfully and ensure no product was damaged in the process.
