Factory improvements at Flexiform

Here at Flexiform, we have been manufacturing high quality office furniture in the UK for more than 40 years and we’re pleased to announce a multi million investment at our manufacturing plant in Thornbury, Bradford. Over the last decade, we have grown to a £29million turnover, manufacturing office furniture for government organisations, major Blue-Chip companies, the education market and private businesses.

As well as our manufacturing plant in Bradford, we have additional showrooms in London and Scotland. We’re proud to say that we have designed, manufactured and installed office furniture to major companies across the UK, including the NHS Business Services Authority, Fox Media Group, St. Mary’s University, Leeds City Council and more (see our Case Studies section for more information). Alongside office furniture, we also have a sister brand, Asgard Secure Steel Storage, designing and manufacturing high security metal sheds for bike, motorcycle and garden to both the public and private organisations.

Flexiform office furniture factory improvementsFor many years we have been at full capacity running 24/7, and as a result, this has restricted the growth of the company. Managing Director, Nick Hewitt, and with the help of MTC (Manufacturing Technology Centre), carried out a valued mapping exercise which identified all the current issues within our factory and any site constraints or bottlenecks.

As an established UK Office Furniture Manufacturing business we are continuously investing in the factory, and are currently undergoing a significant 3-4 year plan to transform the production facility and systems within the warehouse, increasing production capacity by 40% and an additional surge capacity of 20% without increasing the site footprint.

In 2019, we updated the paint booth to a Gama Paint Booth, making it highly efficient, alongside installing a Laser Cutter and a new Panel Bender. Within this year [2021], we have completed the installation of an additional Bystronic BySprint fibre optic laser cutting machine and removal of our oldest and slowest punch machine, the “Pega”. In addition to these large investments, we have also transformed a 600m2 mezzanine into a fully functional seating factory. The new space required a large investment to create a separate and clean environment for fabric use, alongside the installation of lifts, goods in/ out section and structural work.

Investing in up-to-date technology and reconfiguring the current space that we have will help Flexiform and Asgard grow considerably while staying in our West Yorkshire routes. The business will embrace the latest production technology to deliver a lean, modern and high production facility.”

Nick Hewitt, MD of Flexiform Business Furniture

With all these changes, we are extremely excited about the opportunities it will present in the future. We’d like to thank our hardworking staff for ensuring the process ran smoothly. For updates, keep your eyes peeled on our blogs and social channels to see all the improvements within the business.
