Furniture Manufacture
When Hazel Anderson (nee Philip) from David Philp Commercials began planning an office relocation with a bold vision in mind, she turned to a trusted source: her old school friend Steven Bow, our Sales Director at the time. With Flexiform’s ability to design and manufacture bespoke furniture, plus access to our local showroom, we were the natural choice to help bring Hazel’s vision to life.
Inspired by their orange livery trucks, classic truck signwriting, and the building’s industrial exterior, Hazel wanted a bright, eye-catching design with a distinctive industrial style, featuring chunky, thick worktops. At our Scotland showroom, we explored bespoke manufacturing ideas focusing on tailored solutions and reviving classic furniture ranges, including our Jot combination storage units and Olio storage. We began the project with a full site survey to map out the space, then collaborated with our in-house space planning team to design a layout that met every requirement.
Staff Wellbeing & Design
As a family-run business founded by Hazel’s father, David Philp, looking after their staff and drivers has always been a priority. With a focus on creating an exceptional workplace experience, the new offices feature outdoor garden pods, dedicated driver shower rooms, and relaxed breakout areas – complete with cab-style banquette sofas in a premium leather finish.
To support individual needs, we also designed a custom fixed-height desk for a taller team member, ensuring it matched the aesthetic of the other workstations while providing ergonomic comfort.
The offices are filled with personal touches that reflect the company’s heritage and personality, from a portrait of David Philp crafted from LEGO, to a driftwood truck mural and unique artwork throughout. Before the relocation, David Philp Commercials hosted an open day, inviting staff, visitors, and collaborators to explore the completed office space.
Bespoke Furniture Solutions
The office design featured a bold mix of white, black, graphite, and Ferro clear coat lacquer finishes, paired with natural wood grain laminates to achieve a distinctive industrial office aesthetic. Each room was purposefully designed to meet the needs of individual teams, combining standard and bespoke furniture to deliver both function and flair.
Unique combinations were used to create dynamic and engaging workspaces: Pico workstation desks were paired with FlexiGrid decorative storage units, which doubled as design-led privacy screens. We also produced a wide range of bespoke pieces, including executive-style desks that merged our credenza storage with Pico desks and custom laser-cut modesty panels featuring patterns ranging from circular holes to dashed lines. Taking inspiration from our Scotland showroom, we revived our premium, discontinued Jot storage units with matching 50mm laminate cladding and reintroduced the Ferro-Olio storage range, complete with hand-graffiti internal panels and concrete-effect MFC tops. The result is a truly one-of-a-kind workspace that reflects David Philp Commercials’ values, character, and commitment to their people. By blending industrial style with personal touches and functional design, together we’ve created an inspiring environment where employees can feel comfortable, valued, and proud to work.
