As part of our ongoing partnership with Highways England, Flexiform has completed the office furniture installation for their Basingstoke premises. Working with property construction firm Overbury, project managing firm Gleeds and local architects Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt (who provided the interior design and space planning services), Flexiform designed and manufactured furniture and provided product specification advice to match and compliment Highways England’s previous installations, ensuring a consistent look and functionality throughout their offices. The procurement, manufacture, and furniture installation took place during the global Covid-19 pandemic, and Flexiform ensured Government guidelines were followed throughout the project.
Within the new Highways England’s offices, Flexiform installed a range of reception furniture including task chairs for the reception counter, and a nearby waiting area featuring a modular sofa system and Additions low coffee tables for comfort. This was complemented by a Flexiform credenza with an inset wooden top and bespoke key locking for security, creating an elegant storage space within the reception area.
Smart Working Offices
Throughout the smart working offices, Highways England opted for their standard Pico office desking to create a collaborative working environment, complete with their corporate standard mesh back task chair and on-desk power module. These were unassigned, allowing staff to choose a workspace and move around the office to suit their task.
To further expand their smart working environments, a range of informal meeting spaces were installed featuring high back lounge chairs, breakout tables and single booths facing each other. In addition to large breakout modular sofa configurations with a range of high back and extra high backs to create huddle spaces. More meeting and collaboration spaces were provided with visitors chairs and meeting tables, with some semi-enclosed using Encompass booths to create a more private space with sound-deadening properties.
Smart Working Office Furniture
Within the office, we installed more smart working furniture including a mixture of meeting and collaboration tables including our Additions 2 table and our Channel work table with integral power and data modules. The mixture of workspaces allows for various tasks including solo quiet working, collaboration, meetings and informal presentation/ group work. An experimental bespoke U-shape multi-tiered media/ presentation space was installed in a separate workspace for larger presentations and pitches and consisted of high stools, sofas and meeting chairs and spaces for standing and additional staff. All these smart working environments aim to create a more productive and engaging office space for staff.
Traditional formal boardroom furniture in enclosed rooms created private meeting spaces consisting of visitor chairs and an Additions 2 boardroom table with in-desk power and data modules. In addition, large Freestor tambour storage units were added for office filing, with smaller storage units dotted throughout the office for easy access. These traditional office furniture facilities are still essential to Highways England and work alongside smart working furniture.
