Working with long-standing client National Grid on projects across the UK, we were appointed to deliver a comprehensive Cat B office fitout at their Lee-on-the-Solent site. The brief was to maximise workspace capacity while creating a brighter, more contemporary environment that would revitalise the offices, conference rooms and staff experience.
The project included a complete Cat B office fitout, incorporating decoration, new flooring, electrical floor channels and a full furniture installation. Working alongside our trusted principal contractor, Create Space, we coordinated every aspect of the programme, bringing together specialist trades to deliver a seamless, fully project-managed refurbishment from start to finish.
Design Proposal
National Grid appointed our in-house interior design and space planning team to develop the workplace concept, producing moodboards, space plans, 3D visuals and finish schedules to bring the vision to life. Taking inspiration from the National Grid Ventures brand, we worked collaboratively with the client to create a design scheme that extended beyond the furniture to include wall finishes, flooring, skirting and feature details.
To deliver the fresh, contemporary environment the client envisioned, we introduced a clean palette of crisp white walls and skirting, creating a bright, timeless backdrop. This was complemented with natural oak slatted wall panels and branded green acoustic panels featuring a subtle geometric pattern, adding warmth, texture and improved acoustic performance. Durable silver framework finishes provided a practical yet refined contrast without the starkness of white metalwork.
To enhance staff wellbeing and reflect the coastal setting of Lee-on-the-Solent, we incorporated a palette of soft greens and calming teals throughout the furniture and finishes. These biophilic tones create a welcoming atmosphere that promotes focus, creativity and wellbeing. A textured grey and green carpet completed the scheme, unifying the colour palette while providing a durable, high-performance flooring solution for this busy workplace.
Furniture Specification
The installation was carefully designed to balance value for money with long-term performance, maximising staff capacity while creating a workplace that supports wellbeing, collaboration and future flexibility. Every furniture specification was selected for its durability, functionality and ability to adapt as the workplace evolves.
Within the main office, we combined electric height-adjustable desks with modular desking systems, providing ergonomic workstations that promote healthier ways of working while allowing the layout to be easily reconfigured as requirements change. Desk-mounted screens introduced visual privacy without compromising the open-plan feel, while integrated personal storage and planter-topped storage units reinforced the biophilic design concept, bringing natural elements into the workspace.
For the meeting rooms, we specified our Additions 2 meeting table range, capable of spanning up to 8 metres as standard and available in a wide choice of shapes and configurations. The principal boardroom was fitted with integrated power and charging solutions and paired with Miss Collaboration task chairs on five-star bases, delivering exceptional comfort and support for extended meetings while maintaining a clean, contemporary aesthetic.
Cat B Fitout Services
Alongside the furniture installation, we delivered a complete programme of Cat B fitout works, fully project managed by our team to ensure a seamless delivery. This included chasing the existing concrete floor to install a new recessed floor power box beneath the conference room table, providing discreet access to power and data. We also coordinated the decoration of walls and skirting, designed and installed the new carpet finishes, and fitted decorative oak slatted wall panels alongside PET felt acoustic wall treatments to enhance both the aesthetics and acoustic performance of the space.
The project was delivered in carefully planned phases to accommodate the client’s operational requirements, with regular site meetings, progress updates and quality inspections ensuring minimal disruption to staff while reducing snagging and achieving a high-quality finish.
As part of the project, we applied circular economy principles by carefully dismantling the existing furniture and relocating it for reuse at another National Grid site in Ashford, Kent, rather than sending it for disposal. The relocation was fully integrated into the overall project programme, with every stage planned to minimise disruption to staff while coordinating seamlessly with the operational requirements and schedules of both sites. This approach extended the lifespan of the furniture, reduced waste and delivered additional value through the reuse of existing assets.
The result was a fully refurbished office fitout with contemporary and fresh design. We look forward to continuing to work with National Grid across UK projects.
